There are many ways to get a genetic disease or disorder. The way that one genetic trait or disorder like Crohn's disease gets passed down is called Genetic Inheritance. According to the NIH National Cancer Institute, “Each mode of genetic inheritance results in a different characteristic pattern of affected and unaffected family members.” This shows that each mode of genetic inheritance is different in the way that it is passed on. There is no definite mode of genetic inheritance for Crohn's disease. However, 15 percent of people affected with Crohn's disease have inherited it from first degree relatives like a Mom and her child. For example a person with Crohn’s disease might have inherited it from their Mom.
